Just Enough Light for the Next Step

This morning as I was walking the pups and getting the day started with a little conversation with the Lord, my mind went on a safari! It started with a little thing I was concerned about, took a few steps around the corner, hopped a bus to the next town, and the next thing you know, was flying supersonic around the world! What happened here?! My nice, peaceful walk was hijacked by racing thoughts about this "thing" in my future! Sometimes I almost picture God standing off to the corner with a smile on His face, just waiting for me to stop spinning so He can get my attention - kind of like this morning. Finally, I stopped my mental yapping and took a breath - just long enough to catch the Lord raising His hand to get my attention.
"Hey, can I talk now?"
"Oh, yes, Lord! Would you please? I so need Your wisdom!"
And that's when truth and perspective washed over me and bathed my anxious heart with peace. God holds eternity in His hands. He holds me in His hands. And His gift to me this morning was TODAY. And we know that "every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, Who does not change like shifting shadows." - James 1:7. And I finally saw it for what it was - the good gift of October 19, 2011.
Remember that belt of truth I've been working on? An old stand-by came to mind to strengthen that belt - " 'For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11. So this "thing" that's been churning around in my heart and mind just sort of deflated in defeat as the Holy Spirit brought just the right words of Scripture to minister to me. It's still in my future. But my FUTURE is in the hands of God. He's got it covered. My job is just to walk in the light that He's given me for the next step. It's enough. And I can walk confidently knowing that the path leads to good.
May the path you take TODAY be blessed with the treasures of: NOW; assurance from the Word of a future that the Father holds in His hands so that you can walk in peace; and a grateful heart for the good gift of God's bountiful love.
