Day 3 - Of Course, I Do!

What are the “Of course, I do!” things in your life? You know – responsibilities that you take care of on a regular basis because it’s the right thing to do. Things you honestly couldn’t imagine not doing because of the current or future benefits to you or other people.

Do you have an emergency fund?

Do you recycle?

Do you pick up after yourself?

Do you show up on time?

Do you apologize when you’re wrong?

Do you return your shopping cart?

Do you express appreciation to others?

Do you shut down gossip?

Do you hold the door for others?

Do you merge politely on the highway?

And one final question that’s especially relevant today: Do you take advantage of the opportunity to vote? (I’ll admit I’ve been hit or miss over the years.)

Some election cycles and voting decisions are easier than others. Some require more discernment. As citizens of this great nation, we have the honor of casting votes to determine leadership and policy through the ballot box – a privilege not known in many countries around the world. As believers in the one true King, we have a responsibility to participate in our government through a variety of ways – voting being one of those in this time in history and in the specific location where He’s placed us.

If you haven’t already taken advantage of early voting in your area, today is your opportunity to exercise your constitutional right to make your voice heard. Be prayerful, be wise, and be confident that while the results of these elections carry consequences going forward, Sovereign God ultimately reigns and rules over us. We’re in good hands.

Do I have confidence in God’s perfect plan regardless of election outcomes? Of course, I do!

Father, thank You for establishing government as a means of providing justice for communities where we live so that we can enjoy peaceful and quiet lives. Thank You for the privilege of praying for those You place in high positions. As we seek the welfare of and pray for our communities, we look forward to the Day when Your eternal kingdom is established on earth. The Prince of Peace will one day take His rightful place to uphold justice and righteousness forever, and we’ll step into our full role as citizens in a glorious kingdom not of this world. We praise You, Sovereign God. Your rule and reign are eternal! In the beautiful Name of Jesus our King, amen. (Romans 13:1-7, 1 Timothy 2:1-3, Jeremiah 29:7, Daniel 2:44, Isaiah 9:6-7, Philippians 3:20, John 18:36)

Thank you for joining in this week’s Scripture memory challenge as we commit to our hearts and minds Psalm 100. This week’s passage is Psalm 100:1-2.

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing!” - Psalm 100:1-2 (ESV)
