Eleven Looks Good on Her!

Dear Everly,

Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” This year, you’ve learned to live out this verse as you’re now in the practice of giving 100% to whatever you take on. Birthday girl, I want to commend you for becoming a strong, dedicated young lady!

Nowhere has this been more evident than on the soccer field. You play on two teams – which adds hours of practice and game time to your schedule each week. In spite of that commitment, you still manage to find a healthy balance so that school work and friendships don’t suffer.

Fourth grade prepared you well for the leap to middle school. You’ve jumped in with confidence and a rare poise for a girl of your age. You’re an avid reader, preferring thick books with thick story lines over lighter fare. You manage your time so that homework assignments are completed and ready to turn in – usually earlier than when they’re due. On the social side, you’re selective about the friendships you invest in. You’re loyal to the ones in your circle while still being welcoming to newcomers at your school.

Things I love about you in this stage of your life: thought-provoking conversations about God and the Christian life; sweaty hugs after soccer games; pranks (yours and mine!); your silly side. Things you love: Jesus; a challenge; chocolate 😊; your family (even that little sister you sometimes call a pest!).

Honestly, this growing up thing is a little hard on this Milly’s heart, but I’m thrilled to be a witness to the beauty of your becoming – confident, responsible, and passionate about the right things. You make my heart so happy and proud! Happy birthday, Miss E! Eleven looks good on you! Celebrate big!

Always loving you with all of my heart,

Milly
