God * restores those who come to Him with repentant hearts * spreads His light and glory through His people * shows compassion even as He disciplines His children out of love.

Jesus knew He only had hours left before His death, and He chose to spend that precious time serving people He loved deeply. One of the lowly chores of a household servant in those times was to wash the dust and muck from the feet of each guest who entered the home. Once Jesus’ disciples had settled in at the house where they had gathered for the Passover meal, Jesus Himself wrapped a towel around His waist, poured water into a basin, and went from disciple to disciple – friend to friend – washing the feet of each one. Imagine the wave of silence sweeping over the room as the hands of their Teacher and Lord gently washed and dried their feet. Keep in mind that among the twelve was Judas Iscariot, the one who would betray Him. When Jesus was once again settled at the table, He interrupted the hushed atmosphere to drive home His point. In His final hours, He demonstrated to His disciples that serving others is a proof test of true love and devotion. He, the God-Man, had bowed low to serve. They, in turn, were to adopt servanthood as their calling card to authenticate God’s love – even for their enemies. Humble service to all people (most especially to those who can’t, won’t or don’t acknowledge it) is a true sign of God’s Spirit within the believer. Jesus Himself spent some of His final hours providing us with an example of authentic servanthood. Serving others was a priority for Him. Is it a priority for you? – TV

The nation of Babylon had a practice of carrying the wisest men and the most beautiful women from a defeated country back to Babylon as a sign of dominance. When Judah was conquered, King Nebuchadnezzar ordered the chief of the court officials to curate from the exiles a select group of promising young men to groom for royal service. Among those selected were Daniel (“God is my judge.”), Mishael (“Who is like God?”), Hananiah (“Yahweh is gracious.”), and Azariah (“Yahweh is my helper.”). As part of their assimilation, their God-honoring names were replaced with names that referenced pagan gods. These four young men demonstrated remarkable aptitude as they underwent rigorous education in mathematics, sciences, and linguistics. They were disciplined and uncompromising. Even with name changes and intense cultural immersion, these Hebrews stayed true to their God and to their identity as His people. We live in a society that pressures us to reflect worldly values and morals. Unless we’re deeply grounded by the truth of God’s Word, we’ll easily drift away from Him and toward the world. Fight the drift by prioritizing time in the Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart and your eyes as you open the pages. As you invest in study, pray that understanding, transformation, and application will be the fruit of your labor. Armed with truth, you’ll be able to stand firm and stay loyal to God. – TV

The antidote to fear is trust in the Lord. He illuminates the reality of the situation, often helping us to see that what we feared so greatly is far less threatening than we’d imagined. By trusting Him, we can confidently appropriate His power, strength, and protection when we face evil or other difficulties. The enemy is skillful in using fear to imprison our minds with fearful thoughts, but our God is stronger. His light scatters the enemy’s plans, and His children dwell within the confines of His safety and salvation. God works against those Satan uses to oppose His people. Just as He threw Pharaoh’s army and chariots into the depths of the Red Sea, so He’ll cause our enemies to “stumble and fall.” Child of God, trust in the Lord. He is on your side. – TV

Father God, thank You for revealing Yourself through the life and example of Your Son and my Savior Jesus Christ. Your character is made evident in the ways Jesus loved, cared for, and challenged others. Your heart is on display in His compassion, grief, and support. Your power is undeniable in His healings, exorcisms, and authority over nature. Your words are plain-spoken in His conversations, teachings, and dialogue with the religious leaders. Your holiness shines in His birth, death, and resurrection. “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” Lord, for all eternity I’ll be plumbing the depths of the knowledge of Who You are! All I can do is thank You and praise You as You reveal exactly what I need to know and understand to draw me into fellowship with and ambassadorship under my great King. You’ve made my path straight and my way clear in Jesus’ example. Holy Spirit, help me by Your power to faithfully follow in His footsteps. I ask in His beautiful Name, amen.

“Man’s chief business in life is to serve and glorify God. That is why the gift of life has been given to him. That is why we are here on this earth. All other things are subservient to this...” - Martyn Lloyd-Jones

“…Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:44b-45
