Pocket Thoughts - 9/12/26

To be able to trace one’s genealogy all the way back to Abraham was an essential proof for anyone claiming to be a part of the Hebrew family. When the exiles returned to Jerusalem from Babylon, there were some among that number who were unable to document their lineage. Consequently, they were excluded from various activities in the Jewish community. In particular, they were banned from participation in Temple proceedings as those tasks were reserved specifically for members of the Levite tribe. There are benefits to truly belonging to a family. There’s the security of being known, loved, and cared for. There’s the benefit of built-in community, teamwork, and support. And those same elements of a physical family can be applied to the family of God. We should be able to depend on our brothers and sisters in Christ, being unified in the knowledge that the King of the universe is our Father. What a privilege and blessing to belong to Him. We are children of the King! May we live honorably and gratefully for the gift of being a part of His family!

Father, thank You for grafting us into Your family to become Your beloved children. Thank You for the benefits of community and the blessings of fellowship. Lord, we recognize the rarity of such unity and peace among human relationships, and we’re humbled by this great gift. Help us to make known to the world that there’s room in Your house for more! Help us to make those who enter relationship with You to feel at home. Let us welcome them with the joy and delight we found when we first entered the family of our good King. Thank You, Father, that Jesus Christ made the way for us to be made holy and acceptable in Your sight. Thank You for His willing sacrifice and for His powerful comeback from death and the tomb. “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). Thanking You, Jesus, in Your beautiful Name. Amen.
